New York is observed as both a setting and a character. The series combines portraiture, movement and spontaneous details to create an atmospheric travel diary informed by fashion photography and Michelle’s love of visual storytelling.
Creative approach
How the story
was shaped.
The series follows New York at street level, using movement, architecture and passing details to build a visual diary rather than a conventional location guide. Fashion-inflected portraits sit beside quieter urban observations, showing the international perspective Michelle brings to her work as an editorial portrait photographer from Colombia.
Available city light becomes part of the story: open shade, harder street contrast and reflected light from buildings create different emotional registers across the sequence. Exposure and framing are used to protect atmosphere and color while allowing movement and occasional imperfection to remain visible.
A compact, mobile shooting approach supports quick changes of location and spontaneous portrait opportunities. The published series does not specify camera bodies or lenses; its strongest production signature is the ability to respond quickly to New York’s changing light, pace and visual density.
